Why am I unable to log into AbeLink.net after I have already signed up for an account?

Please check your e-mail after signing up for an AbeLink.net account. Within a few minutes you should receive a confirmation e-mail that contains a link to confirm your account at the e-mail address that you used to sign up here at AbeLink.net. After you click the link (or copy and paste it into your browser's address bar and go to the address), you will receive a confirmation message and be able to log into your account.

If you do not receive the e-mail, it is likely that the confirmation e-mail ended up in your spam folder or that you used the wrong e-mail address when signing up for the account. In either case please contact us so that we can help you gain access to the site.

How do I report problems with listings in the directory?

Report Problem with Listing Link

The easiest way to report a problem wiht a listing is to use the "Report Problem with Listing" link that appears on every listing page in a gray box underneath the location map. Click the this link to report the problem.

Please note that depending on the listing:

  • A form for driving directions may appear between the map and the gray options box.
  • There may be additional links in the gray options box.

How do I add a listing?

You must be logged in to use this feature. If you don't already have an account, sign up now!

When you are logged in, an "Add Listings" link should appear in the top menu of all pages. After clicking the link, you will be brought to a page where you can tell us whether or not you own the business that you would like to add. We want the directory at AbeLink.net to be as accurate as possible, so we welcome the addition of business listings from anyone.

Business Owners

Once we know that you are the owner of a particular business, we will present you with a free option and several paid options that you can take advantage of right away. The paid options offer additional features that will provide potential customers with more information about your business and that will make your business stand out in the directory.

Other Members

The first step in the process is to select a primary classification for the new listing. This tells us in which category you think the business best belongs. Then you just provide us with basic information about the business, such as the business's name, address, and phone number.

Please note that all submissions are subject to review. We will review submissions as quickly as possible.

How do I upgrade a listing?

You must be logged in to use this feature. If you don't already have an account, sign up now!

If you are the owner of a claimed listing, an "Upgrade Listings" link will appear in the top menu of AbeLink.net's pages. You will also be able to upgrade listings from your member area.

After deciding to upgrade your listing, you will be presented with several different payment options. For more details about upgrading listings, please see the "What does AbeLink.net have to offer business owners?" section of this FAQ.

What does AbeLink.net have to offer business owners?

Default Listing

Any listings automatically include the following information:

  • Name of the business/organization
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Single category
  • Google map to location

Claimed Listing

After becoming a member of the site and adding or claiming your business, you will have the option of adding the following information about your business for free:

  • Website link
  • Fax number
  • Description (600 characters, text-only)
  • Hours of operation
  • Payment options

Premium Listing

After you add a listing or claim a listing and your request has been approved, you have the option of purchasing more features for your listing. For a low price, you can add even more options to ensure potential customers can learn everything they need to know about your business:

  • Logo
  • Automated directions to your business' location via Google Maps
  • Contact via e-mail form (your e-mail address will not be displayed to prevent spam)
  • Description (3,000-character, rich-text/HTML)
  • 2 additional categories
  • 1 keyword for expedited search results
  • 10 photos with captions optionally viewable as a slideshow
  • 5 documents (upload a PDF of your price list or menu)
  • Product/service offer catalog with up to 5 offers with images, prices, and description
  • Year of establishment
  • Secondary phone number

Once you claim a listing, you will be presented a link to upgrade your listing(s) on your main user account page (please note that you must be signed in to access this page).

What are ratings, and how do I rate a listing?

Users submit ratings to indicate their opinion of a particular business or organization. The number of black hats that a listing has is the average of all of the ratings that we have received from AbeLink.net's registered users. These ratings may or may not include a review (please see below).

On each listing page, there are black hats that show a listing's current rating, or, if the listing has not yet been rated, all of the hats will appear gray. The number of hats that a particular listing has also appears just below the hats.

There are two different ways to add a rating for a listing.

  1. When you are logged in and have not yet rated a listing, you can hover over the hats. As you hover over the hats, they will turn gold to indicate the number of hats that you would like to give the listing. Once the appropriate number of hats is highlighted, click to submit your rating.
  2. When submitting a review for a listing, you also have the option of adding a rating. Similarly to above, hover over the hats and then click to submit your rating.

How do I add a review to a listing?

I am the owner of one of the businesses listed on AbeLink.net. How do I claim the business listing?

Claim Listing Box

On any listings that have not already been claimed, a "Claim Listing" box will appear at the left side of the listing page. After clicking the link to claim the listing, please provide us with your contact information so that we can verify that you are indeed the owner of the listing. We will contact you as soon as possible after receiving your claim.

If the "Claim Listing" box does not appear on your business's listing, please contact us to let us know about the problem.

I am a business owner, but my business does not appear on AbeLink.net. What do I do?
